PYPE Hayes sprint star Luke Lennon-Ford will represent Great Britain at the European under-23 Championships in Lithuania.

Lennon-Ford has been selected for the 4x400m relay for the championships, which take place in Kaunas from July 16-19.

The 20-year-old , who used to be coached by the late Steve Platt and now works with Roger Walters, has made a dramatic break through having moved up in distance to the 400m.

His personal best display over the one lap distance has improved by a second and a half to a time of 47.11 seconds which earned the Stag the silver medal at the England Under-23 Championships 400m final

He needed to dip under 46.7secs to make the individual squad but his sparkling performance has justifiably secured the Birmingham youngster a relay place.

Despite missing out on individual glory the Birchfield Harrier was always confident He said: "I'm a bit off the individual time but if a few other guys can run quickly then they might take a relay team. But I definitely see myself in that – but it all depends."

Meanwhile, Sutton's Laura Kenney secured a season's best performance at the Gran Premio Andalucia meeting in Malaga on Saturday.

The Royal Sutton Coldfield AC star was fifth in the 5,000m in 15.35.76mins.
