Super Kev to the rescue again for Blues

A point at home to Burnley last weekend was not the ideal result for Blues, even though the Clarets are admittedly having a fantastic season.

It was a bit of a wasted opportunity because both Wolves and Reading dropped points so even a point was tinged with disappointment.

Once again it was Kevin Phillips to the rescue – I watched the game against Sheffield Wednesday a week or two ago too and he pulled Blues out of the fire there as well.

I don't know how many points he has saved them this season but I think without his goals Blues would only be upper mid-table.

I remember speaking to Baggies' player Paul Robinson at the Coventry game at St Andrews earlier this season and he said the biggest mistake Albion made was letting Phillips go – and he has proven that with his goals.

Looking forward, this weekend sees the visit of Nottingham Forest and Billy Davies, who have done well in recent weeks.

I know a bit about what's going on at Forest because I'm very good friends with David Kelly, who is Billy's assistant manager at the City Ground.

David lives in Sutton and I speak to him pretty much every day – and we both think it will be a really good game.

Over the last month or so, the top few teams have all dropped points and no-one has made any ground.

We're getting towards the nitty gritty now and although there has been a lot of doom and gloom around Blues as to how they are playing, they are still third with a chance of automatic promotion.

My gut instinct right now is that Reading will go up as champions and that Blues will be one of four or five teams battling for that second spot.

So hopefully they can click into gear and start producing performances AND results.
