Derby draw was two points dropped for Birmingham City

I KNOW there will be fans sitting there this week thinking that, with Wolves losing on Tuesday night, Blues missed a chance to close the gap at the top.

Nobody expected Reading to go to Molineux and get three points and I bet if you entertained the idea of a Reading win you would not have thought it would be by three goals.

That is why it was such a big chance for Birmingham to draw level in the table once again at Pride Park.

Derby are on the worst run in their history at the moment, what with their results over the last 18-months.

They may have just started to turn the corner as their results have started to pick up, but even so with the squad Blues have got they would have been hoping for maximum points.

Looking back at the tape, they will feel worse as they were in complete control and also the goal they let in was a bad one to concede.

It would have been nice to hang on for the win because the chance to get two away wins on the bounce is rare in this league. Especially when you go to places like Pride Park and Ninian Park.

The Derby stadium is a fantastic one and is a pleasure to play in.

It is not exactly like that at Ninian Park, but Blues put all that behind them to get the win last Saturday.

That would have pleased Alex McLeish and the lads as after the draw against Blackpool a win was very much the order of the day.

Looking forward to this weekend then and Blues take on one of the richest teams in the country now in QPR.

They may have the money but the Blues have the players at the moment as they showed by bringing on the likes of Quincy-Owusu-Abeye on Tuesday night.

Quincy is a quality player and the other subs like Marcus Bent and Gary O'Connor would walk into most sides in this league also.
