Worksop wonder-game shows what we want

I AM going to start the column this week by firstly wishing everyone a happy New Year – and let's hope it is a good one for Hednesford FC.

If it is anything like the back end of the one we have just had then I can guarantee you will not find me complaining.

We have worked hard, got a side together now who want to win this league and on Boxing Day showed what we can do in this division if we put our mind to it.

We did not just beat Worksop on that day – we absolutely murdered them.

We scored seven in the end but in all honesty we could have had a lot more than that.

There was a good feeling among the lads on the coach on the way to the game and I think we all thought that a win was ours to take.

Speaking to the lads it seemed like we had all been professional over Christmas and no-one had over done it.

That was obvious in the way we played.

I have been on the end of some results like that at this club in the past so I know how Worksop must have been feeling.

I remember one game when we went down 8-1 to Northwich Victoria – that was a hard one to take.

But on Boxing Day it was our turn and the icing on the cake really was the way we took that seventh goal.

It was such a good move and of course it enabled Elliott Durrell to complete his hat-trick.

Now the task in hand for us is to forget about that game and concentrate once again on what we have to do.

A New Year's Day game with Ilkeston will be testing – especially after we took a fortunate three points at their place earlier in the season.

They showed that day how good a team they are so we will need to be at our best to get anything from the game.

It will be a test for us also as, like any player who wants to make it in the game, we will be giving up a party night to prepare for it.

I for one do not mind as going out on New Year does not compare with playing in the game the next day.

After Ilkeston it is Kidsgrove away for us and although it is a cup game we will be going to that one looking for a win.

The gaffer has instilled a spirit in the club this year that means all the lads want to win all the games and that can only be a good thing.

We do not care if it is a league match, a FA Trophy match or one of the smaller cup games, we want to win them all.
