Looking forward to home comforts at Church Street

IT'S been an up-and-down week in terms of results – but I thought we played well at both Malvern and Sudbury.

I said last week that Malvern was one we would expect to win because they are bottom of the table but we had to make sure we did the job right.

We ground out the win and played some good stuff second half when our class showed through. So we went to Sudbury confident on Tuesday night.

We started ok and although they then got on top, it seemed as though we weathered the storm.

Then they got a controversial goal, which Mark Branch thought he had cleared off the line, but even then I felt we could get something from the game.

But we then went down to ten men when Harry Harris was sent off. Harry thought he was hard done by but a few of the lads said he kicked out.

Even then, on another heavy pitch, our workrate was fantastic and we really stuck at it.

It was a long journey there and a long one back too – I didn't get home until 1.45am and had to be up for work at 7!

It puts into perspective these pros earning £40,000 a week and moaning about being tired!

With Leamington winning (again!) I think realistically we have to look towards playing for second spot – which would give us home advantage in the play-offs.

Nuneaton are one of our big rivals for that and we play them at Church Street on Tuesday night.

First, we travel to Soham Town on Saturday and we need a win there to set us up nicely for the big Nuneaton game.

We've been away a lot recently so it will be nice to be back home and hopefully with a big crowd.

As I write this, I'm just about to go to the Coventry-Cardiff game at the Ricoh Arena.

Cardiff haven't forgotten us from the FA Cup tie last year and they gave us two tickets in a box for the game, which myself and Mick Joiner took.

As a Coventry lad, of course I was hoping for a home win but knew I'd have to keep my noise down if the Sky Blues scored!
