Keys Park cancelled as weather strikes again

WELL it is a New Year but the same old story at Hednesford as when the weather gets very cold we are called off.

It is an ongoing problem we have here at the club but there is nothing we can do about it but sit and wait.

With the way the ground is there is always going to be that one section that gets nearly no sunlight and it is there that the freeze hits us hard.

Saying that I do not think it would matter how the pitch was positioned this week – with the weather we have had the game was always going to be called off.

It is a real shame that we have been hit like this as all the lads just want to play at the moment.

We were on the back of a really good run of form and there is no doubt that we would rather have been playing games than having an enforced rest.

It was not as if we even had the benefit of being able to go out on New Year's Eve also.

What with the weather like it was we could not run the risk of going out but then the game going ahead.

So instead we prepared as if it was going ahead but it was just not meant to be.

I just hope now that the weather changes quickly so that our game versus Welling can get the go-ahead this weekend.

We are desperate for that to be played – especially when you consider how well we did last time we took on a team from that league.

We beat Hyde 5-0 on that occasion and although we are taking on a team who are a bit higher in that league we are still confident.

We want to send out a message to the rest of non-league football that we have got a good squad and that we are here to stay this season.

It would be good to do that with a win over Welling.

There is another reason we all want the game to go ahead and that is because if it does not then our game against Willenhall next Tuesday night gets called off.

With so many former Lockmen in our squad that is a game that we want to go ahead – and sooner rather than later if possible.
