Help for depressed Sutton mums
Acacia Family Support, based in Walmley, has trained volunteers ready to offer help and advise to women who need it.
Jayne O'Sullivan, the charity's operations support officer, said: "As an organisation we recognise that Mother's Day might be a struggle for some mums out there who may be suffering with this illness. Their Mother's Day will be far from the joy and celebrations of so many other families."
The charity's website www.acacia.org.uk is the first point of contact for any mums or mothers-to-be who need help.
All the details of how to get in touch are available on the website and anyone who leaves a message on the charity's helpline on Sunday will be called back within 24 hours.
Some of the classic symptoms of pre and post-natal depression include constantly feeling tired, lacking in energy and sleeping problems.
Mums with pre or post-natal depression may cry a lot; feel low or unhappy for much of the time and lack of motivation.
They may be over anxious or over protective of their baby, or feel emotionally disconnected from or even rejected by their new-born child.
Acacia runs a weekly drop-in centre at St John's Church in Walmley Road, Walmley on Thursdays from 10am to noon.
"Post-natal depression is a treatable and temporary illness," added Jayne.
"The majority of mothers recover quickly with the right help and support, and move on to enjoy motherhood in all its fullness."
