Great win but still a bit down

IT was a great win for us at Prescot last weekend but we were still a bit downhearted after the game.

The win made us realise even more that we had put ourselves back in the play-off fold but let ourselves down against Boston and Matlock over Easter.

At Prescot we won easily, playing with a bit of class I thought – some of the football we knocked around was among the best we have played all season.

A few other results went our way and it's still mathematically possible for us to get into the play-offs on the last day.

If it happens it would be great but it's a long shot so we'll just be concentrating on trying to end the season on a high with a win at home to Leigh on Saturday.

It's funny the way the season has gone – at the start we weren't just beating teams, we were taking them to the cleaners.

Then we went on a run where we didn't win a game in ten and with form like that you don't deserve to go up.

We had our fingers crossed it might come down to the last day and if other teams could do us a favour we would be very pleased – but we have to beat Leigh too.

As a side we have shown what we can do this season – we played 18 games without getting beaten after all and looked like we would win the league.

Then all of a sudden we are playing teams near the bottom of the league and we can't seem to pass the ball to each other, never mind get a few goals.

When defeats start to happen, they have just seemed to come thick and fast but I guess it's a learning curve.

We are a young team – probably myself and Ross Dyer are the old heads because we've played for three or four seasons but we're only in our early 20s!

The way this season has turned out has been a hard one to take because as Matt Elliott and the gaffer have said, if we play our best football there is not a team in this league or the one above that can beat us.
