Flood-hit school in plea for memories
Gunter Primary School in Pype Hayes celebrates its 80th anniversary in July. But all it has to show for its history are old registers, after a burst water pipe in the school hall two years ago soaked boxes full of photographs.
Now staff are desperate for former pupils and teachers to clear out lofts and dig through old files to find precious memories from their schooldays.
Jackie Harding, the school's senior office manager, said: "These things cannot be replaced.
"All our photographs were kept in cardboard boxes in the school hall. Sadly everything was destroyed in the flood.
"If anyone has any photographs or memories from their schooldays, or from teaching at the school from 1930 onwards, we would be so grateful if they could contact us."
The school will celebrate its birthday on Saturday, July 2 with an open day and summer fair. Pupils and staff will be dressing in costumes from the 30s, 40s and 50s and actors from Birmingham's Crescent Theatre will be visiting in period costume.
There will be morris dancing courtesy of the Green Man Morris Group.
All ex-pupils and staff are invited to attend from 10.30am onwards.
If you attended or taught at Gunter Primary School and have memorabilia to share, contact Jackie Harding on 0121 464 2367.
