Fitness fan gran is 95 years young
Remarkable Peggy Andrews is a dedicated member of her aerobics group.
For the past 30 years she's been attending the same class at the Osbourne Road Centre in Erdington – training religiously twice a week.
"I believe I can put my good health down to it," said Peggy, who celebrated her birthday on Monday.
She's an inspiration to her class mates and is still fiercely independent – doing all her own shopping and gardening.
And with all the exercise, she's able to indulge the sweet tooth she developed when she managed a chain of cake shops.
"It's not very strenuous, just a little gentle exercise," said Peggy, a grandmother of seven.
"We have a wonderful leader who is really fantastic – she makes us enjoy it."
Keep fit tutor Ann Dempsey, aged 60, said Peggy was simply 'marvellous'.
"I met her 30 years ago when she started coming to my over 60s class and she's been an active member since.
"She's been part of my senior demonstration team and helped us to win cups competing against youngsters in their teens.
"The team retired because they thought they were getting too old, but Peggy just keeps going.
"I think she is marvellous, she is a real inspiration to everyone.
"I always say when I grow up, I would like to be like Peggy."
The council-run Osbourne Road Centre offers a range of keep fit classes for adults. To find out more call 0121 464 6190.
