M6 collision near Great Barr causes delays

A CRASH on the M6 between the Great Barr and Gravelly Hill junctions caused delays for motorists yesterday.

Two cars had collided on the southbound carriageway during rush hour.

West Midlands Ambulance Service sent a rapid response car to the scene shortly after 8am.

A spokesman said: "The driver of one of the cars, a man in his 30s, was cut free from his vehicle by fire crews under the supervision of ambulance personnel.

"He had a suspected spinal injury and was immobilised with the use of a spinal board and neck collar before being taken to Sandwell Hospital for further assessment and treatment."

The driver of the second car involved in the incident was a woman in her 30s and she refused further treatment.
