GREAT Barr cricket sensation Chris Woakes is hoping that Freddie Flintoff's imminent departure from Test Cricket can give him the springboard to achieve his own England ambitions.

Warwickshire all-rounder Woakes has been named as one of the players most likely to replace the departing Flintoff in the England side.

And all-rounder Woakes is hopeful that he may get the chance to represent England in an Ashes Series one day.

"I still have a lot to improve in my game, but of course I want to play for England.

"It is something every player dreams of and something that if I do, I will feel like I have achieved all I set out to do in my career.

"It's flattering for people to say I could replace Freddie Flintoff in the England fold one day.

"He is a great player and just to be mentioned in the same breath is an honour.

"I have tried to take a lot from what he has done, such as being consistent with both bat and ball, and incorporate it into my game.

"I have worked on both aspects of my game and tried to play more shots when I am at the crease as well as concentrating on just taking wickets."
