Calls over Sutton town centre step repairs
This picture shows the steps leading from Sutton shopping centre, opposite British Home Stores, down to the Tamworth bus stop on the Parade.
Terry Leeson, of Whitehouse Common Road, said: "Is this one of the reasons why Sutton town centre is a second-rate shopping centre?
"I'm not pointing the finger of blame, I would just like to comment on it. No-one seems to care.
"There is a safety issue – it is on the edge of a step where a lot of elderly people walk down to catch buses. It is dark by about 4pm now and people could easily fall."
He said he would like to see the step repaired with matching brickwork.
"It should be made to look like it was before, not a second rate repair. If it was on my own driveway, I would want it repaired properly."
He added: "There seems to be a lack of concern and this is one of the reasons Sutton is not a nice place to shop."
A spokesperson for Birmingham City Council said: "Emergency repairs were carried out on the step to make sure it was safe on the day the Christmas lights were switched on in the town centre (November 19).
"An engineer will be going out again to repair it so it is in keeping with its surroundings, but we don't know exactly when it will happen."
The spokesman added: "We are aware of it and it will be treated as a priority."
